Resting-state EEG for the diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures: A systematic review

چکیده
Quantitative markers extracted from resting-state electroencephalogram (EEG) reveal subtle neurophysiological dynamics which may provide useful information to support the diagnosis of seizure disorders. We performed a systematic review summarize evidence on interictal, visually normal EEG in adults with idiopathic epilepsy or psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES). Studies were selected 5 databases and evaluated using Quality Assessment Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2. 26 studies identified, 19 focusing people epilepsy, 6 PNES, one comparing PNES directly. Results suggest that oscillations along theta frequency (4–8 Hz) have relevant role whereas there was no evident trend. However, subject number methodological limitations potentially introducing bias. There often lack appropriate reporting high heterogeneity. not for quantitative synthesis. identify discuss challenges must be addressed valid developed.

A systematic review of suggestive seizure induction for the diagnosis of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures
Suggestive seizure induction is a widely used method for diagnosing psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES). Despite seven decades of multidisciplinary research, however, there is still no unified protocol, no definitive agreement on the ethical framework and no consensus on diagnostic utility. This systematic review surveys the evidence at hand and addresses clinically relevant aspects of sug...
متن کاملThe Diagnosis of Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures
About 25% of patients seen in epilepsy clinics and monitoring units who do not respond to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) have received a misdiagnosis.1-3 The eventual diagnosis for most of these patients will be psychogenic nonepileptic seizure (PNES)1,4-a somatoform conversion disorder. It is treatable, but diagnosis, delivery of the diagnosis, and management present significant challenges. A majo...
متن کاملBiomarkers in the diagnosis and study of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures: A systematic review
OBJECTIVE Video electroencephalography (vEEG) is the gold-standard method for diagnosing psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), but such assessment is expensive, unavailable in many centers, requires prolonged hospitalization, and many times is unable to capture an actual seizure episode. This paper systematically reviews other non-vEEG candidate biomarkers that may facilitate both diagnosis...

PURPOSE Although differences in illness perceptions between neurologists and patients with epilepsy or psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are likely to be clinically relevant, this is the first study to attempt a direct comparison. In addition, this study compares the illness perceptions of patients with epilepsy with those of patients with PNES. METHODS Thirty-four patients with epilep...
متن کاملThe Truth about Psychogenic NonEpileptic Seizures | Epilepsy Foundation
Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are an uncomfortable topic, one which is difficult for both patients and healthcare professionals to discuss as well as treat, and yet it is estimated that PNES are diagnosed in 20 to 30% of patients seen at epilepsy centers for intractable seizures.1 Moreover, in the general population the prevalence rate is 2-33 per 100, 000, making PNES nearly as prev...
